What is 528 Hz?
528 Hz is one of the nine "solfeggio frequencies," a set of tones from 174 Hz to 963 Hz that became popular in modern sound-healing circles. It is often called the "Love Frequency" and is traditionally associated with peace and transformation. This page plays it as a pure sine wave, generated live in your browser.
What does the research say?
Honestly, not much yet. The popular claim that 528 Hz "repairs DNA" has no scientific support. The study people cite most often is a 2018 pilot by Akimoto and colleagues, published in the journal Health. Nine healthy adults listened to music tuned to include 528 Hz on one day and standard 440 Hz music on another. After just five minutes of the 528 Hz music, their salivary cortisol (a stress hormone) and their self-reported tension went down. That is an interesting early result, but nine people is far too few to draw conclusions, and the study used music rather than a pure tone.
So the fair summary is: there is no good evidence that any specific frequency heals the body, but plenty of people find a few minutes of calm, focused listening relaxing, and that is a perfectly good reason to use it.
How to listen
- Choose 528 Hz (already selected) or another tone from the Solfeggio, Intention or Calming lists.
- Start at a low volume. Pure tones can sound piercing if they are loud.
- Set the auto-stop timer for 5 to 15 minutes.
- Close your eyes and breathe slowly, or pair it with the meditation timer.
Other solfeggio tones
Each tone has a traditional association: 174 Hz with comfort and grounding, 396 Hz with letting go of fear, 639 Hz with connection, 963 Hz with spiritual oneness. These are spiritual traditions, not proven effects. Tap any tone to read its description.
